GTI ECU pin removed - is it the correct one?

  1. #1
Hi all - just getting my head round all the usual mods for the unlocked ECU's and 16v conversions (Im a classic Mini guy, first venture into injection/ECU's!) I have bought an engine conversion "package" that includes everything to do a 16v conversion to my 1.1 106 - even the correct twin plug engine loom so it should hopefully be plug and play (see my thread a bit further down this page). Ive heard about properly unlocked ECU's having the immobiliser pin removed - my ECU has had a lot of money spent on re-mapping and is unlocked and has pin no.8 removed on the top row (from the left) - is this the correct pin to be removed to stop it from re-locking? Do I have to do anything with my immobiliser before installing it? See pic below. Thanks for any help!

Best off speaking to a member on here called cam who unlocks ecu's mate.

Make sure the black immobiliser box under the dash is removed before plugging the ECU in and it'll all be fine (if the ECU is unlocked)

Got the new engine loosely mounted today and the ECU plugged in etc - haven't tried turning the engine over as its not properly mounted and has no oil, but the fuel pump primes and immobilizer keypad lights go straight to green without the code (I also didnt remove anything form this - potentially silly, but it all looks good) so its all pointing to being a properly unlocked ECU - also there is this one on ebay that has the same pin removed and the seller claims that it cant be re-locked as the immobilizer pin has been removed, so must be the right one

Sounds positive then - just get the engine ready and start her up!

I always advise people not to plug the ECU in until they know what they're doing with immobilisers etc. as can easily lock an 'unlocked' ECU

It must have been the correct one as the engine is in now and starts lovely every time - plug and play, no wiring needed to be done at all!
