P0300 and power steering failing

    Hey,

I had a few strange problems in the last week and I'm not sure whether they are related or not.

It started with my power steering failing. After work I was just on my way from the parking lot and in the second turn my power steering suddenly decided to stop working (scary!). Strangely enough, after I stopped and restarted the engine, it was working fine again.

Hereafter I had no problems for a week but then, out of nowhere my engine light came on and the engine ran rough (whole car was vibrating). Luckily I wasn’t far from home and when I checked it came up with a P0300 random misfires. I let my Saxo sit for a few hours and after that, again, no more problems.

Now yesterday my power steering was failing again, right after driving off but this time only for a second or so. The rest of the ride it was perfectly fine again.

I’m starting to suspect some electronic component failing since I read somewhere that the ignition stuff and the power steering share the same circuit. A few months back I occasionally also had problems with starting and a drained (new!) battery but that got fixed after I changed the coilpack.

Could it be that the new coilpack is also faulty (original bosch, looked completely unused, but from ebay) or do you guys have any idea what I can check to narrow it down?

Get your alternator tested free at halfords mate,it maybe faulty.

The power steering power is taken directly from the alternator.

I'd start at the alternator as above, but don't come to the UK just to go to halfords, you will be very disappointed
