Can the cigarette lighter handle a consistent 3 amp pull?

    I've hooked up a monitor to run on 12V and have successfully tested it both on an isolated battery, and through my cigarette lighter socket for ~5 minutes. It works well, but I'm concerned about burning out the wiring.

    Aside from draining the battery, is there anything to be concerned about from running a 3 amp device at 12V?

    3 amps from it should be fine....feel if the wires are getting warm, if they are, go up a gauge mate. im pretty sure there are jump starters for when the battery is flat that you stick in the ciggy lighter, and that has to be a lot more amperage....
