So the saxo starts and drives fine, however a flashing orange light has appeared on the dash its of a key and a square? believe it to be immobiliser light but the car still starts?

Sounds like immobiliser. Guessing it's a transponder....remove the casing around the steering column and check the receiver ring behind the ignition barrel has not slipped (I had it happen to my old vtr) or if you have a 2nd ignition car, try holding it just below the ignition against the plastics, that will give you an idea if it's slipped. If that fails, try getting hold of a new immobiliser unit, the part that sits under the dash near the glovebox (might be worth checking with other on here if it will disrupt your ecu before plugging in other units, last thing you want to do is lock your ecu and then your never get started without a lot of messing about)

Immobiliser fault. One optino taking to get code read out and find problem.

    2 change fob battery

Also there is a little aerial that picks up the signal from the key so the car can start

Try holding a spare key if you got one and hold it close to the barrel as you try to start it.

The aerials that is used to receive they single could also be bust or faulty.

Could try ECU reset but not fully sure when it comes to this sort of thing. Take both connectors off leave for about an hour or so.

When you connect them back up your mobilise light should be on like you locked car and you should here the car beep at you after put on might set alarm off use fob to stop then put key in and turn should solve it.

Hope one of them resolves it for you

thanks for your help but issue is still not resolved, the light is not on or flashing but the car does not start now.. fuel pump runs, crank sensor seems ok too.. Is there anyway the ecu could have been locked, think it has to go to a specialist tbh but just cant afford it at the moment!

Does the car turn over still? Never heard of an ecu locking itself unless you've changed things over and not originally unlocked the immobiliser.

Car still not fixed, it isn't a transponder... The immobiliser light came on after i started driving in a lot of rain, it came on faintly which is strange.. the morning after that the car had literally like a lake inside... immobiliser light flashing orange yet still started and ran... a few days later, immobiliser light came off completely car was fine... The immobiliser light has not come back on however the car turns over but doesnt start, any more ideas? surely an ecu can't lock itself even if that is the problem..

Corrosion of the main connector from the engine loom to body on the passenger side chassis leg.

The serial immobiliser feed goes through this connection, when you mentioned rain, this could be the problem.

disconnect the big plug (plugs as some have 2) and look for corrosion. use an NEW tooth brush with stiff bristles and give the terminals a good clean up before reconnecting.

Tell us what fixes you tried?

    Saves repeat suggestions.

Have you checked the blower motor for leaves and make sure the scuttle doesn't have water in it.
