What is this?!

Evening all, still having grief with my central locking, got power at the control module but the infra red sensor isn't behind the roof console?! Any ideas on that greatly appreciated!

But I need help identifying this, originally thought it was the immobiliser when I pulled it off a few years ago but found the immobiliser hidden even deeper behind the dash, so I'm guessing this is probably alarm related?! Is that right? And could having it disconnected stop the central locking operating?

It's all in a Mk2 VTS if that changes anything?!

I'm sure that's the central locking ecu type thingamybob...

Should be the standard alarm.

That looks like the alarm ecu. The central locking is a single plug unit behind the glove box and about half the width of that but similar length.

Saying that, on a mk2 I'm not 100% certain but the description I gave matches both of mine.

Yeh I've got the central locking module plugged in under the dash, according the Haynes wiring diagram the central locking is standalone, but then again there is no mention of the alarm anywhere, so possibly if I bung the alarm back in the central locking might just fire up again! Fingers crossed as it was working and this module is the only thing not connected on the system now!

Alarms are never mentioned in detail in Haynes manuals otherwise every newbie car theif will have a bookshelf full

If by plugging that unit back in doesn't solve your locking and your fuses are all fine, try getting hold of a donor central locking unit, the car I've just brought had no central locking, the old owner said it packed up a year ago but alarm worked fine on the remote so I knew it wasn't a remote or receiver problem. I swapped the central locking unit between my cars and it sorted it out straight away.

Cheers bud, I'll plug everything back in and see if I can get the alarm working to check the fob/receiver are both working (new battery in fob, receiver missing in action), did you need a matching fob or just the module under the dash?

resynchronising fob is simple enough.

you can code it yourself its just finding out the way which its done.

It is done by sequence key turns and button pressing. Not sure how the process works as I replaced batty in mine a few months ago held the button down for a few sec didn't do anything wouldn't lock or unlock car or sort arming of system then done a few more times n started working.

I just swapped the big relay under the dash.

Only difference was the other one was black but soon as I changed them over, the fob worked fine to lock/unlock, arm/disarm.
As far as I know the receiver for the fob is in the roof lining but I've never pulled mine down to check.

Cheers mate I'll plug the alarm in and see what if anything works then go from there, it all used to work fine but none of its been used for a few years :/

Right update time, that is definitely the alarm module! And my alarm definitely works! Lol

But I can't turn it off using the fob, so I guess I've got a faulty fob or receiver, I'll change the battery again for a new spare I have at home, it's the receiver that's bugging me, where the hell has it gone?!

There is no evidence of it ever being in the roof console, original wiring loom for light (and one other 2 pin plug that doesn't do anything?) are all intact and untouched, which suggests that Citroen must have abandoned it elsewhere?

Has anyone ever found the standard infra sensor anywhere else in the car? It's a Mk2 '52 plate VTS?

Mk2's use rf fobs. No direct line of sight required, the receiver is under the dash. Mk1's had ir and a receiver by interior light.

No doubt battery is dead in fob. Change battery, re-sync if needed.

Ok mate cheers for that, there's a new battery in the fob but I suppose it could be a dud, I've got one more at home I'll try...

All the syncing methods mention unlocking with the key then locking with the fob twice in 20 seconds, but I've got delocked doors (which are unlocked)?! Does that mean I can still re-sync them with using the key as they are already unlocked?

I know in the past when I've had delocked cars, re synching has caused headaches as usually it always involves putting the key in a door and the boots never seem to work for sync.

I'll put another new battery in the fob and then try the above method, 'on' position is the first position as you turn the key isn't it? (Been a whole since I've started it!)

Something in the back of my mind is saying the reciever is near the handbrake or gear stick.i maybe wrong but i've heard this before.

I'll have a look around there mate as I have had had all the lower console out for bits, might have knocked a connection if it is around there?

Hi mate I have a thread on installing central locking into a saxo that never came with one. Yours is the rf version. You won't find a receiver as it is mounted inside the long rectangle box shown earlier in the thread. If you have changed. The battery's and ensured the connection are good then the box is faulty. In this case go to a few scrap yards look in their saxos and find one that has the same box. Disconnect it and will cost you probs about £10. Make sure though you have the fob that came with that car too otherwise it won't work. Most scrap cars have them hanging in the ignition.

Cheers mate, will try another battery if not I'll try and hunt down a new module and fob, so everything on the mk2 is in the rectangular module under the dash for the central locking?

Not every but most, really does sound like its the module but if you have a spare or if their cheap enough try another battery
