Just had my piper 285 cam fitted and my car to say the least has lost performance alot of it runs like a bag of hammers now i know it does need a remap but i dont think it should be running like this anyone can shed some light on this problem would be great
Problems with cam
-
#1
-
#2your cam timing isnt set right. plus the peak power of that cam will probab;y be above your standard RPM limit.
-
#3285!!! holy poo.
-
#4that isnt the actual duration of the cam. for some reason they name them a higher spec than they are.
-
#5will be 26 something
-
#6as you said matey, it needs a re map
-
#7will need a remap indeed pal and rev limit raised slightly
-
#8but it'll be a sports cam rather than a fast road for instance yeah?Quote:Originally Posted by williamsvtsthat isnt the actual duration of the cam. for some reason they name them a higher spec than they are.
-
#9yeah its the higher of the two availible the rallye/road cam i never had a timing disk with it so i beleive the mechanic set it to the standard timing of the car so this could be the main reason do you think
-
#10Hi mate i see your from the north east where abouts if i was yo cross your palm with some of the queens english pounds would you come and have a look at the car for me if you have time and give your opinion on what it could beQuote:Originally Posted by williamsvtsyour cam timing isnt set right. plus the peak power of that cam will probab;y be above your standard RPM limit.

#11ok try again does anyone have a timing disk for a piper 285 cam so i can get the timing correct i beleive this to be the problem as im getting no bottom end power whatsoever so i think the standard timing is no good for this cam
-
#12have you got a vernier pulley fitted?
with them cams you will loose bottom end power but will gain power higher up the revs.
im from northumberland mate. -

thast prob what they would catagorise it as yeah, but tbh the 'fast road' spec cam is not worth doing for the increase you'll see. -
#14Yes its the ultimate road the timing should be 32-68 and 68-32 as im no expert i dont have a clue how to set this and dont have timing disk so im just biting the biscuit and have it booked into the local tuning shop on thursday and look into the possible remap aswell with the same place depending on price
-
#15yeah just as i understood it, it was a bit crazy to go for a sports cam as the engine is pretty much useless for everyday driving.Quote:Originally Posted by williamsvtsbut it'll be a sports cam rather than a fast road for instance yeah?

#16i put a post up in the for sale section and this one come up from gaf vts and for the bargain price of £100 i couldnt miss it come boxed and un opened
-
#17no dude sorry i wasnt having a go at all. i'm just more interested in the whole camming thing
-
#18if its mapped properly then most cams will idle.
-
#19it seems rough now on idle but i wouldnt say its terrible just louder and thats with the standard timing so hopefully once this is all set up it should be even better
-
#20it should be. they are really sensitive to how they are timed.
-
#21cam is all done it was 1 tooth out so they reset it now its back to running great feels a hell of alot quicker too and alot more noise too i may have to get a silencer for the center section
