mk2 vts p/steering problem

    Wondering if someone could help me, last night was driving the car, pulled out of a junction and p/steering just stopped working....no weird noises in the past, just stopped dead. Changed the grey relay, checked connections, even gave the motor a tap just in case....still doesn't work.
    Is the pump knackered or could it be something else, is there any other relays/fuses for it?
    But at the same time the pump stopped working, my aftermarket alarm started going off....while driving.
    Please help me, as car is near on impossible to drive without p/steering due to the rubberband tyres.

    Hmm I would say the pump but then I'm not sure with the alarm going off aswell sounds a bit weird, maybe you could try wiring the pump up directly to test if it's working but obviously check all fuses first

    Alarm has reset itself, finally.
    Think im just going to change the pump itself....could have done without the ball ache tbh.

    why dont you start with checking the power to the pump? If it's not getting 12v then it's not the pump at fault.

    How do i check if there's power getting to the pump?

    Multimeter? Power probe? Bulb and two wires?

    does ignition have to be on or off?

    Ignition on mate,the pump is powered when the engine is running.also whilst you've got the engine running check the alternator output voltage.

    Would a dead battery or alternator cause power steering to go? Reason I ask, I'm out in car at minute got about 6 miles from my house, radio started going off, lights on dash dimmed, then headlights stopped working, battery light came on, dials cut off but still running, revs went to 2k, and now car is dead on side of road.
    Tried turning back over and is completely dead, only just hear fuel pump working

    Those signs point to either a loose earth or failing alternator,mine did this it was the alternator at fault.

    Sounds like the alternator. Replace it and I bet your power steering comes back too.

    1x vtr alternator fitted, battery fully charged.....she runs, she also has her power steering back happy days

    I hate being right so much
