Clutch or gearbox fault

  1. #1
Hi guys I have a 1999'vts driving fine until the clutch pedal went to the floor I drove it home ok without using the clutch suspecting the clutch cable had broken but it was ok so I changed the clutch thinking that maybe the fingers on the pressure plate had gone but it's still the same I can drive it ok if I start it in gear but still have no clutch I double checked the cable again and it seems fine. ????? Any ideas thanks

Did you change everything, including the release bearing? And when you put everything back together did you adjust the clutch cable to the correct position?

Yes I put a valeo clutch and release bearing in and tried the clutch adjustment in various positions

Did the pedal rise while adjusting yes? You've checked the cable hasn't come off the actual pedal?

Yes the cable is attached ok and the pedal rises seems like there's lots of movement on the fork when the pedal is down

When you changed the clutch did the fork for the release bearing look okay? If not engaged properly you'll have no operation. Also when you depress the pedal does the arm actually move? The clutch cable may be broken further down the line

The release bearings have plastic clips to retain them to the fork sometimes these clips can break and the release bearing will detatch from the fork causing the symtoms you have described.
