Leaky Situation

  1. #1
    Hello all

So I seem to be leaking from the top left corner of my windscreen (passenger side) I've heard before that saxos are renowned for letting in water. Is there a quick fix for this? Any advice would be bob on.

    Cheers

might need a new seal, however, my mate thought his windscreen was leaking and we found that it was actually his ariel. Give that a check first along with the sunroof. Water might be running from there

    Well this explains everything....

How on earth am I going to resolve this? It has rusted away the pipe connection and the surrounding sump.

    Any ideas people?

    Thanks

    Fibreglass it.

Removing all rust first or just bang it over the top?

No remove all the rust, which which leave a hole then fibreglass it.If you just fibreglassed over the rust then the rust would in time push through.

Alrighty, I will have to do this when I have a bit more time on my hands. If I was to remove all the rust the drainage pile would just fall out, how would I go about reattaching this?

Tie up the drainage pipe into position, then fibreglass round it,once dry the pipe will be held in place.

    There's an idea! Thanks...

Now where's best to get my hands on a fibreglass repair kit?

    Cheers

Any motor factors will sell you fibreglass.

Purchased some of this from the local Halfords in Warrington, cheap and cheerful but hopefully it'll do the job..

Exact kit I used to do exactly the same job a few weeks back. So far, it has worked great with all the rain we've had recently.

That's good to hear Tiger, any tips for me at all? It's the first time I've had to fiberglass anything and don't want to mess it up! Did you slap
It with silicone as well for good measure?

Wear a mask when using fibreglass mate.

As stevo67 has said, a mask is definitely worthwhile if you don't want to breathe in any fine pieces of fibreglass matt and the fumes (I should of did that one). Get a few brushes or some acetone, don't use too much hardener if it's the 1st time you've used fibreglass and take your time. I did a few sheets in areas that where needed then after it had dried I built areas up just for that extra piece of mind. When I did mine I literally stripped the whole sunroof out, frame off the roof included so while the fibreglass was setting I had stuff to clean up, repaint our of boredom then resealed the rubber that the glass sits on then sealed the frame back to the roof using sikaflex. Also if you do go the whole hog of removing the frame or if you can ease the drain pipes off, push some welding wire or something down the tubes to check for blockages at the same time, saves removing the roof lining again later.

Good job for a 1st attempt as long as it stops the leaks is all that matters. Best thing to do is leave the roof lining down while it sets, once set, throw buckets of water over the roof (unless it rains), fill the channels with water etc and check for leaks or if it's running off down the drain tubes properly then refit everything once you know the leak is fixed.
