1.1 Rear drums replacement garage price.

  1. #1
New pair of rear shoes fitted to a 1.1 Saxo along with the 2 brake pistons for the drums, garage asks 240£ including VAT.

Issue was the rear brakes had seized even with the handbrake off the car wouldn't budge, the car itself was parked around 500 meters from the garage, don't know if they included the price for towing it there.

What could be a average, honest price for the above? Problem is they already carried the job, doubt i can discuss about the price with them.

This sounds a a huge rip-off to me but i would like to read your opinions.

    Thanks.

look at the bill and the breakdown of parts and labour. Labour charges vary massively between garages. Did you get a quote or leave it open ended?.

    £240 is crazy.

Shoes are like, £40 maximum. I paid about a tenner for wheel cylinders, so that takes it to £60

    You can re-use everything else.

That leaves a £180 labour charge including VAT, so that's £144 less VAT.

At dealer rates, that would be almost 2.5 hours. What the fuck were they doing? watching a movie? pulling their pisser?

an hour and a half max for that job. that's taking all the shitty bits into account.

These are the prices i was thinking about.

I won't pay if i don't see the bill with all the parts and prices of everything i need to pay for, once that's done i will post these here, they must have lots of imagination to be able to get to that price,we will see.

there may be a wheel bearing or 2 on there. that could be a cost. as sometimes the bearings split.

But if you're me, you just put the drum back on once the nut is tight the bearings good anway. gives a chance to re-pack with grease too

I don't know but the 3 hours labour was enough not to set foot in that garage ever again (actually it wasn't even my car therefore i wasn't the one paying),i reckon the prices for the parts were around the amount you posted earlier.
