how much mpg do you get in your saxo

  1. #1
I think my saxo is using more fuel than it should be. Last night i left with half a tank and i don't pay alot ofattention to the fuel gauge and i ran out of fuel when i checked my trip i only covered 80 mile to half a tank (Fuel light didn't come on car just died) I filled it earlier to about half a tank and was driving a more sensible, the light is on already and I've done about 115 miles. Its a 2002 1.1 Saxo desire

If i can remember correctly i covered about 550 ish miles to a tank once when i just passed my test but the last time i filled it i did roughly 250 miles and i got to the 1/4 and just topped it up

Really ? Whats tank cost to fill ?
  4. #4
Sounds like the fuel isn't even reaching the engine. You got a leaky leak perhaps?

From what i know i don't. There's no signs of petrol on the road or anything and it's not like i'm thrashing it i'm sticking below 2500rpm until i'm in 5th and need 3000 to sit at 60
  6. #6
It has to be a leak, no way you burn that much in a 1.1, that's impossible.
  7. #7
another thing if i park up for the night when i come back out in the morning the gauge says it has more than what it had last night so it could be the gauge giving me false readings and would explain how i ran out of fuel without the light coming on but still doesn't explain how i got 80 miles to half a tank
  8. #8
Don't rely too much on a saxo fuel gauge they're not that accurate.

Sometimes when im just above read, ill stick £10 in, get in and itll be just below half a tank, but after a few mins of driving itll settle to where it should be, and it goes to about 1/4. You sure this hasnt happened?
Mine can be a bit happy at times and say its got more than it should, and it looks like im burning fuel really quick because the needle goes down quickly but its jut settling.

once i had 1/4 and put 10 in then and it went to 1/2 and after driving for a bit it went up just a little above half then it drops a little when i stop and when i start driving again it goes back up

    It'll be a faulty gauge.

No way in hell £10 at todays prices will ever get you 1/4 tank.

Assume 30mpg, fill to brim and fill up every 300 miles. that way you'll never run out of fuel. and you don't have to rely on the fuel gauge.

My car is lowered, so the gauge reads high all the time too.
  16. #16
I doubt i will have it for another 300 miles anyway haha get my 206 soon
  17. #17
Mpg is for pussies just fill up when its empty
  18. #18
I can do around 300 miles for £30 at the moment in the VTS, probably more. (Petrols £1.19 at asda!)

I put £30 in on Monday and I drive 250 miles a week, gauge says I've just under half a tank left...

    Your 1.1 sounds goosed
  19. #19
I know this was a while ago i posted this but the other day i put £30 in and that took it above 3/4 but i moved the car away from the pump and left it parked on level ground for half an hour so the gauge should have settled, anyway that put it bang on 3/4 so that day i reset the trip and watched the gauge like a hawk the second the light came on i covered 175 miles i found out how much petrol is left when the light comes on and i did the math and i'm getting 26.19 MPG in a 1.1 and that was economical driving never went over 2500 revs and sat about 50 everywhere. Was mostly driving on A roads a couple of B roads and less than 10 miles in a town. There's no leaks car was due a service a 1500 miles ago. What are possible problems, If i'm on idle and rev it it will pop and pop all day and it smells really bad not like raw petrol but burning sh*t
  20. #20
    sounds like you're overfuelling?
  21. #21
It probably needs a good service, then go from there.

Thank you for doing a proper MPG calculation btw, it's absolutely useless when people say "I got so many miles to a tenner".
Your car would be running rich as hell if it's actually using this much petrol. Time for a decent service.

Prickle / John - No point using V-power in a Vts. More noticeable and beneficial in a high capacity boosted engine.
  22. #22
I've used it all year round tom.. and will continue to lol.

V power makes more pops and bangs in my car, worth the extra money in my opinion

I'd say you're throwing money down the drain but what do I know.
Citroen would've designed the car to run on 95 octane. Unless you've had the car mapped to suit 97 there really is no point at all.

The only reason I use it on mine is because the car is mapped for it and showed a 10bhp rise.

    service your car.

    Who puts a tenner in?!?!?

I'd use that getting back onto the main road of the forecourt!

So does OP by the sounds of it! Maybe he's pulling up at the fuel station then filling up someone elses car by mistake?

For getting to and from work (and a small amount of running about) A tenner would probably last me from Monday to Friday.
Put £30 worth in on Saturday morning as I was going to my older brothers for the weekend. Have now done almost 200 miles and I reckon there's at least a tenners worth still left. Big difference in consumption between normal town driving and motorway driving.
My exhaust is blowing like fook too (weld's completely gone between the cat and the rest of the exhaust) but kinda fixed temporarily, Saturday morning with a couple of metal plates screwed to cat and exhaust pipe and a large jubilee clip round it. (surprisingly much quieter,,, and if I open the windows a tad, the fresh air stops me falling asleep because of the fumes. (new cat on order and should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday,, Oh joy is me,,,,, quite forgot the fun of lying on my back in the bloody cold, getting sodden and covered in oil, roadmuck and black sooty particulates.) (in the dark too, by the time I finish work and get under the bloody car,, although I might leave it till the weekend)

Generally get about 350 to 400 Mile out my 1.6 VTS with a bottle of Nitrox on filling full tank..

Also using NITROX PETROL BOOST 300ML seems to improve things a little too.

General motorway use and main town average 30 to 40 miles per day covered.

Since using this stuff seems like using vpower and saves a fair bit on filling up too. 95 octane nice price at Sainsburys currently for unleaded 112.6p Super at tesco 117.9p

    112.6 x45 = £50.67 unleaded
    117.9 x45 = £53.05 unleaded premium
    131.8 x45 = £59.31 Vpower

1x Bottle of Nitrox £1.99 saves me a tenna almost every tank of flue and seems get same performance and output and mileage as using Vpower.

I'm gettin 160miles on 20quid/half a tank in the vtr if that helps not sure how many litres that is it's from asda lol..
