106 GTI Idle issue - pulling my hair out!

  1. #1
Hi all, Ive recently carried out a GTI conversion to my 106 - ran perfectly fine to start with and has, in the last week, developed an idle issue - It will idle fine on initial start up and when started after being left for half an hour or so, and you can rev it up then and it will return to idle fine, but as soon as you take it out on the road it will stall when the clutch is dipped. Not even a slight hesitation around the 1k idle mark, just drops straight down below 1k and stalls, every time. I have re-placed the ICV and TPS, no change. I have thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and checked for air leaks, none found. It does have a badly blowing exhaust at the manifold - centre pipe join, due to not being able to find a reasonably priced Pug Sport yet, could the loss of back pressure be doing it? Is the MAP sensor worth changing? Not sure what avenue to persue next. It runs beautifully throughout the rest of the rev range, it just wont idle!

Any help is great, I cant find any threads with this exact problem, they all seem to be accompanied by other running problems, mine only has this idle issue.

Bump, any thoughts on the exhaust back pressure or MAP sensor?

    Faulty coil pack?

Maybe due to the blowing exhaust the lambda sensor is getting the wrong reading and adjusting the mixture to suit. Could also be coolant temp sensor if its doing it once warm
