Few questions

  1. #1
I've decided to take the cam covers off the engine with an idea of cleaning them up enough to possibly be painted or at least to make the engine look a lot tidier but have a few questions to help me out and on the refitting part. This is the 1st 16v saxo I've had and worked on so some questions might sound stupid.

1.Can anyone give me any tips on getting into the awkward areas before I start on them?

2.Someone mentioned to me a few days ago that there's an updated oil cap for these engines which apparently stop any oil leaking from the cap, anyone know about them?

3.Is there a gasket I can buy before refitting or is it only instant gasket seeing as that's just all been pulled off just need to clean up the rest? (I have already removed the plate that sits in one side just in case anyone notices it's missing)

4.Lastly, 2 part question which will probably sound stupid but, the 4 corners, I'm guessing are oil drain holes?
No idea when the car was last serviced as I haven't had it long and just wanted a play in it but now ive stopped playing and taken it off the road, I have noticed today they are a bit clogged with shit so wondering, can I unbolt that part of the engine aswell without removing the cams, timing belt etc (that's a job being done after Christmas before the car goes back on the road) so I can blast the crap out of the channels before putting any engine flush through when I do the service?

Bump....ignore the 1st question, different size wire wheels did 90% of the job, just need to buff them up a bit then decide on if they should be left alone or painted.

This is the 1st 16v saxo I've had. I've had some fun cars in the past but after writing a vtr off years ago I've always said I wanted another. I got given a 1.1 (my shed) but that's on its last legs, I could of done the work to fix it up but was lucky enough to pick up the vts for the same price it would of been to do the work on the shed, done some work on it, nothing special just replacing stuff to standard but it's made me think why I wanted another vtr seeing these are a lot more fun so far and I haven't given it a real push yet. It's a lot better not listening to an engine struggling at 70mph aswell haha.

U can't take the cam cradles off without the timin getting messed up. U also have to use the sealent to put covers back on. No gasket available. Unless u use te jp4 covers. Which have replacement gaskets.

Thanks for that. I'll save clearing the oil drains for when I do the cam belt then and do it along with a full service.
