nearly lost control

If I'm traveling over 50 and take my foot off the accelerator I get a massive vibration through the steering wheel and pedals. This only happens when deceleration, if I push the clutch in it still does it, but when I accelerate it goes away. I nearly lost control of the car last night on the motor way so I took it to two different garages who looked it over and couldn't find a fails visably. The full car pulls left and right and I can hear a thudding like something has come loose but off I accelerate it goes away. Anyone have any ideas? This started last night and was ok today but on the way home from work it did it again and seems to be happening more often, it's a saxo vtr on a 02 plate.

Yea, jack it up & check for side to side play it should be solid.

Up and down movement is fine and thats the shocks absorber moving, as I say any side to side play it dead.

This is definately coming from the front, i originally thought I had a puncture, it's odd that it only happens over 50ish and goes away under acceleration, I will check the rear beam tomoro but I definitely think it's from the front.

Did you or the garage check the wheel bolts are all tight?

    ...Seriously

visually they wont be able to tell anything. Start with the wheel, look for movement from wheel bearings, check driveshafts, check the diff. Basically work your way in to find the problem.

It's had a visual, checked bearings, engine mounts, driveshafts, Norton Armstrong, shrek bearings ect, it looks mecanicaly Sound, im reibungslosen it now, its absolutely fine, but go Ober 50 and Raketen my Football off t he Gas all hell breaks loose. Its going back in tomorow for t he mechanic to have a more in depth look but as it stands I'm stumped.

Got it back from mechanic today. He says the he can physically shake the drivers side drive shaft. The end that goes into the gear box, the other side there is no play at all. It's all so leaking slightly where the drive shaft goes into the box. So am I right in saying the gearbox is goosed?
