Avoiding seized brakes.

  1. #1
I've had the vts off the road for about 2 weeks now but when I went to move it yesterday the handbrake had seized so I had to rock the car until it freed off, after that everything was fine. I'm going to be moving the car daily this week to avoid it happening again, the only problem I've got is the car is going into a garage as of Monday for some work and won't be collected until Friday, hopefully the mechanic will be moving it daily aswell so hopefully won't have any problems there but over the Christmas period the car will be parked up for a few weeks again and at times I won't be around to move it so is there anything I can do that will slow down or stop the handbrake seizing again so quick?

Leave it in gear with the handbrake off?

Get some of that spray on greece and then spray it through spokes all over disks and pads.

Not a great idea to spray grease on the discs. They wont work when you actually need them. Handbrake off and chock the wheels. But seriously 4 days with a garage is not going to cause an issue whether the handbrake is on or off. Longer storage you will want to leave the handbrake off.

The garage is the least of the worries, it's more going away over Christmas, I wouldn't trust any of the neighbours to move the car and if I was to leave the handbrake off then any "opportunist" that notices may have other ideas for the car when they see the alarm system armed. As for the grease, it's a good job I'm not one of these "McDonald's/halfords rude boy racers" who believe anything, rather have brakes that work, just a shame there only a very few genuine people that like to offer help on here. I'd happily leave the car in gear and no handbrake but the post was originally to see if anyone knew of other ways round avoiding and seizing.

short of removing the pads not really. Leave it in gear and lock the car. Its going to be just as difficult to move as a car with a handbrake on.

I can't believe someone suggested spraying the disks with greece (or grease as it's actually known).

    Not sure if srs.

I'm guessing there is a consensus: don't spray shit on your brakes.
