Fan wiring

  1. #1
My saxo came with twin fans and a manual fan switch (think it was wired to come on automatically aswell but not checked yet) and it's stopped working.

I'm thinking of wiring it directly to a switch for simplicity as I'm not brilliant with auto electrics.

Is this as simple as cutting the connectors off both fans and joining the cables and then connecting the negative to the - terminal on the battery and running the positive to the inside of the car with a switch on it and back to the + terminal or will this melt the wiring or anything?

The current setup has one of these on near the switch:

would I need this or not?

    No basically.

You need to run it through a relay to step down the power of your going to fry the wires over continued use.

ahh thanks, knew it sounded too easy to be true lol, is there any kind of relay I can buy from maplins/halfords or somewere like that that I can use to wire it in?

After a bit of googling, I think I'm going to buy a relay from halfords and wire it up like in this diagram (without the diode part and with a manual switch instead of temp switch) and use whatever size fuse was being used in the current setup
