Rust problem or not?

I've just been to see a saxo vtr to buy.
The arches look in really good condition, the sills look
Very good too(what I could see of them with the skirts in the way).
I found that the underside of the boot floor was rust free too but the two beams under the floor were really corroded.
Can anyone tell me if this is an MOT failure and I should steer clear?

Also the other question about the car was that the airbag light was on!
Is this generally an easy fix?
    Thanks

I assume you are talking about the torsion bars? In which case rust on them isn't a problem. 99% of saxos will have rust on them unless its a new beam.

Again, airbag light on isn't a problem, the airbag light is a MOT failure but there are many ways round it, probably a pretenstioner not connected or something, worse comes to worse you can de-solder the airbag light easily enough.

Thanks for the info RE the air bag.
No not the torsion bar but the two rails directly underneath and attached to the underside of the boot floor!
    Thanks

They're supports to strengthen the boot floor, not sure if they'd be an MOT failure, but you'd want to replace or repair them to keep the strength in the boot.

I think most Saxos have a bit of surface rusting under the boot floor now unless they've been under sealed early on and looked after very well, depends how bad itis if it's major rust and looks like it's going soft obviously avoid the car but if it's not too bad it should be ok just clean it up and under seal it when you buy the car and it should be ok for a good few years

Yes, they'll look pretty rusty. Should still be okay though.

If they were rotten, that would be an MOT failure, as the axle bolts through them at the front of the boot floor - so that's within 40cm of a structural point.
