Saxo temperature

So here we go again just purchased a 03 vts was going to break it but after having a look over the car it's not a bad car at all so maybe one to test and sell on.

I've had the car running today for around an hour ran fine didn't miss a beat it was mainly just stood idling and 10 minutes driving I'm not sure if it's just me but the temperature seemed a bit high? It was going up to around 3/4 before the fan was kicking in and bringing it back to halfway it was also fluctuating up and down quite fast.

From my experience with my own vts it usually sits just below half and goes just over half before the fan kicks in.

Really my question is this could this be a sign of future overheating problems? The car did not overheat at any point in the hour it was running? Could it be the thermostat?

Any suggestions or help much appreciated.

    Whats the point in guessing?

    Compression test it.

    Bleed the cooling system first.

Check to see if coolant is actually going through, could be a broken W/P in which case T/B could be on way out with it. Compression test it, check for leaks, make sure it's working (thermostat is a good place really, I guess you can volt meter it to see if it's functioning). You could also hook up a ODB reader and see if you're getting temps from the thermostat.
