Spraying tailgate/boot

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Need some of your thoughts on my project.

I have got hold of a Posi Blue tailgate that I need to paint in Wicked Red.

I am going to attempt to spray it using aerosol cans. I do have some experience using aerosol cans due to painting motorcycle fairings and various other motorcycle parts.

Any advice on taking the glass out, taking the badges off and preparation?

    Anyone else done this??

    Many thanks

    Daniel

Only thing i'll say to you is don't,spraying with cans you just won't get the finish.that's not having a go at you mate.small things yes cans can be good but not a tailgate.Besides the colour you want is a common one and a tailgate in that colour should be easy to source.

Don't do it, will look so bad, needs to be done with a proper gun and compressor, or take it to a body shop

I'll have to get out the spray gun then by the sounds of it. Was looking for an easy option.

Anyone else had any experience spraying larger sized body panels with cans?

It wont match, not even close. Hold out for a blue boot.

It'll look properly gash, spraying a big panel like this is streets ahead of spraying small motorcycle fairings. Getting the glass out needs some specific tools you wont have lying around, Will probs cost around £50-60 to buy all the bits you need to remove and replace the glass unless you break something when you remove it.

Just hold out for a posi blue, try and sell the wicked red one if its in decent condition there's a few people after that colour

Just looked, thats great! Last time I looked there was only one shabby looking one. Three of them deliver too! Looks like we're sorted then, thanks!

Fitting the original VTR spoiler on the 1.1 tailgate is do-able right?

Each side of the tailgate is a spade connector,a cable runs from each side of the car up to the tailgate.
