Is it possible to change the vtr 8v engine into a 16v

Basically I am not very competent with cars have big dreams but little knowledge - was wondering whether it was possible without basically completely changing the engine. This is probably a stupid question cos i have a feeling that you will have to change the whole engine - any help would be much appreciated

Why would you not just swap the engine?

No silly questions, fair play for asking.

The 16v engine is completely different engine to the 8v as you thought. It's not just a case of installing 8 extra valves, you'd need to do a complete engine swap.

It's not a difficult job if you take your time and label everything up, and plenty of our members have completed it so can offer help.

like holdawayt said your not silly for asking because you don't know until you ask, especially as you have little knowledge.

you would have to swap the whole engine because theres so many different reasons. not an expert on saxo, I'm a heavy vehicle guy. but in some instances you would need a thinner head gasket or would have to increase the size of the bore in the engine to cope with the increased about of air/fuel mixture being introduced into the engine.

My work attempted to put a different cylinder head on an engine block and the head actually melted. This was however a diesel and HGV's do have a lot more stress thats put on the engine but you never know, its always a risk.

In my opinion i would just change the whole engine. It would be too complicated to just swap the head and there would be so many risks. At the end of the day it would be a lot cheaper to swap the engine complete than to swap the head perfectly.

It can be done. I've seen a few floating around the RR with 8v blocks and even a 1.4 16v over the years.

It's not just the head, 16v runs different inlet & exhaust manifolds, ecu.....

what is the difference between the 16v block and the 8v block?

    not a lot at all.

That would be in the head, not the block. Read up before trying to be a smart arse chap.
