anyone know anything about pug 206?

    bought my partner a 206 to learn to drive in. It's a 1.4 petrol 52plate.
    I was told by previous owner he's had it checked by an auto electrician and was told the ecu is knackered.
    Symptoms are:
    Soon as you start the car temp gauge jumps to red.
    Missfire straight away on idle and when driving.
    No signs of head gasket failure. Coolant and oil look fine (but could do with a change)
    I plugged my obd2 into it and it came up with the following codes: P0200, P0115,P0300 and also a code that was lambda/o2 reading but can't remember the code.
    Thermostat seems fine as rad pipes are warm on both sides.
    Engine doesn't smoke or anything.
    Is previous owner correct that it could be ecu? Or could it be something as simple as coolant temp sensor? I have 2 here from my old Saxo and looks like they will fit so will try them but unsure if they are working lol.
    Any help would be great. Need to get car running right so she can get learning and stop asking me for lifts lol

    Yeah I've got the meaning of the codes mate. Am I best off sorting them faults first then?
    Or would a dodgy ecu throw up random faults?

    That's a difficult one to answer,because you'd only know by changing the ecu.if it threw up the codes again then you'd change sensor and parts,if it didn't then you'd know it's the ecu.what you could do is clear the codes take it for a spin and see how it drives.

    Do the 1.4 206's come with bsi? im not sure, but my mrs's 206 1.6 she had last year, that had bsi and there was a special way to soft boot the bsi unit.

    Something to do with removing the battery wrong. sounds daft i know, but there's actually a sequence to do it, otherwise you can corrupt the bsi.

    Not sure if a corrupt bsi unit would cause your symptoms, but worth a search i guess?

    Regarding the temp sensor, maybe a faulty one is telling the ecu there's an overheating issue, causing the ecu to put the engine into safe mode?? I would buy a genuine sensor if im honest.

    Have a look on 206info they are probably your best chance to solve the issues you have.

    Done that. Made no difference. Checked it again and only one code appeared back up which was the coolant temp malfunction.

    Just noticed too. When just putting ignition on and not firing it up temp gauge is going straight to red then also

    Not being pissy mate but I wouldn't have bought a car with a knackered ECU ..unless I knew something about ECUs

    It was cheap mate. Body work is exelent and for what I played there's bits on it where I'd make money for stripping it
    But I'd rather fix it for the missus.
    If it is ecu that's playing up then it's ecu, ignition, and immobilizer job just like when doing ecu on the Saxo which I've done before.
    Plus on eBay the full kit sells about 70 quid

    So the only code it has now is the coolant temp sensor you say?

    And it jumps straight to red, and it's running odd?


    Not being funny, but if that sensor is dead, the ECU won't be fuelling the engine correctly causing it to misfire.

    Change the coolant sensor. That's your problem.

    I'm planning on giving that a go with temp sensor first.

    Oh yeah just to note I unplugged the sensor and it changed nothing. Dial still in red and still running lumpy. If say the temp sensor was fine unplugging it would make a difference yes?
    But as I've unplugged it and nothings changed wouldnt that mean it's knackered?

    No, there would be no change if the failed sensor has gone open circuit and you unplugged it.
