Brake caliper rebuild kits?

  1. #1
I noticed whilst bleeding the brakes on my VTR I have a sticking rear caliper, I don't really have the money to spend 55quid (cheapest I've found) on a refurbed caliper at the moment and I'm wondering if anyone has tried the brake caliper rebuild kits as you can pick these up for around £20?

I don't mind taking the extra time rebuilding it if it will do the job, anyone done this before?

I just stripped mine down, cleaned and painted them an rebuilt them using big red seals. To be honest it'll be the sliders needing a clean and re-grease. Use red rubber grease on the slider pins.

sorry to hi jack this thread but mine are the same and getting worse. where would be the best place to get seals for them and how hard is it to strip them down?

eBay it, company called Big Red Seal as said above.
It's easy to strip down and rebuild them but you will need an airline to push the piston out. It's easy to do but can easily go wrong and if not done right obviously you could lose your brakes.
If you're mechanically confident, then give it a go, if not sure, leave it to someone who is!

You don't need a airline just pump the piston out enough before you disconnect the line. If your going to great ethe sliders you may as well strip them down.

All it is, is piston out and carrier off. Back together and bleed.

Ordered a rebuild kit so how do I get the piston out without an airline?

Take the pads out, give it a few pumps of the pedal and then remove the calliper. When you take it off it'll be out enough to grab and pull.

Once your done you'll laugh at how simple they are.

Remember red rubber grease for pins.

Lots cheaper than a rebuilt caliper if it does the job
