Dashboard dials not working

    Hey guys.

    We own a 2000 citroen saxo 1.4 sx 5 door, automatic transmission.

    Its my mother's car and I make the fixings and take it to service. She's generally happy with the car... But we had a problem with the speedometer. It sometimes doesn't work, just sit in the 0, sometimes it suddenly starts to work. I had left is as is because it never stopped completely working.

    Now 2 days ago, all other dashboard dials went off suddenly. Fuel indicator, heat indicator and rpm indicator all went off. (speedometer is same, it works on and off, for speedometer it might be the speed sensor on the transmission, I will have it fixed separately but other dashboard dials are together wired to something I believe)

    All other dashboard lights are normal, turning signal lights are normal, warning sound when lights are on is working, horn/central locking/washer etc are all normal functional.

    1. I tried unplugging the battery for some time. Didn't work.
    2. I checked all fuses, all fuses are OK.

    and that is all I can do for myself now.

    I took it to some services and most of them said they don't know how to fix it. I took it to a more serious service and they told me the problem is from dashboard and I need a complete new dash, which is a little pricey, willing to order it but what do you think? is there a way to put the true diagnose? if the problem isn't from dashboard, it will be a real waste of funds to buy a complete new dashboard

    Before you condemn the dash make sure the plugs are pushed in firmly at the rear.you'll need to remove the instrument cluster to this,there is a guide in the interior styling section in the stickies.��

    Long story short, the problem was with the dashboard and speed sensor on the automatic tranmission. I changed the speed sensor. Speedometer returned back to life. Other gauges still didn't work. I bought a new dashboard, presto we are good. Everything is fine now but I have small problem. New dashboard was 0km, my old dashboard was 110.000km, is there a simple way to transfer that 110000km to my new dashboard? I'm confused I thought they read the total km from ecm ecu but I believe it is a standalone meter in the dashboard...

    There is a mileage unit on the cluster just below the speedo,swap it over to the new cluster.

    Hey Stevo, thanks for answer. Below photos are my old defective dashboard. You mean that rectangular screen? Is it simply removable? or does that screen read the milage from another unit and you are mentioning it? I'll try it tomorrow morning (sorry for asking too many questions, if this was another car, I wouldn't bother this much, I'd just try it by myself, but for saxo, it took me 20 days to find a new dashboard , I don't want to damage the new one )

    Yes the unit circled in the last pic,someone did comment on the need to tape the unit in afterwards.

    Personally, if it's new.

    I'd write 110,000km on the back of the cluster, and leave it counting from 0km again.

    In our country, mileage is recorded when the car is inspected every 2 years. for ex this car's 2013 inspection is 96.000km and if mileage is below 96.000km on next inspection, probably it won't pass the inspection unless I take some papers from an authorized Citroen service, even I do so, in that case it will be a problem when/if we decide to sell the car. To be problem free, it is always to have the true mileage on the dashboard.

    It won't be a problem as long as it's recorded on paperwork.

    We have the same system here in the UK every year. Mileage is recorded with the rest of the inspection.

    Not sure what it's like where you are, but people generally couldn't give 2 shits about mileage as long as the car looks good mechanically and visually (well kept)
