More Clutch issues??? Problem solved now fixed!!!

  1. #1
As most no my clutch cable plastic pedal lug snapped so garage fitted another cable, an auto adjusting one and when I got car back the car was struggling to go into 1st and 2nd gear and also reverse was hard and felt like the clutch wasn't pressed fully down as it would struggle then stall.
So went to my mechanics garage last week and told him to fit a manual adjusting cable found on the pug quicksilvers and some model Saxos.
Turns out that when he got the cable fitted the plastic lug I believe that goes onto pedal wouldn't fit, so he put another auto adjusting cable on and said it is stiff cos of the paddle clutch but should be ok.
So after about 5 mins of driving it home, it just does not want to go in to 1st or second gear same as before.
So basically not ideal to use as it's upsetting other motorists when there driving behind me.
    Any suggestions guys

Bull shit, he's ordered the wrong cable.

Manual cables have the same ends on them. All the pedals are the same from 1992 106's right the way up to 2004.

Have you tried lifting the clutch pedal as high as you can by hand, that should set the ratchet.

I agree mate I always thought they were the same.
I reckon at a guess hese purchased one that's not an original Peugeot one.
Looks like I need to some internet searching and purchase one myself.
    Thanks mate

What's peoples thoughts on the clutch pedal, Sat higher than the other 2?

It should be higher than the brake and with roughly 2cm slack before it starts to grip

Think I've found out why garage couldn't get the manual adjustment cable to fit:

    Taken from rallye forum

Ok just found out the new manual adjusted cable wouldn't fit not cod of the plastic lug but due to it not going thought the bulk head, apparently there's 2 types and the one I had had a big plastic part on it, wrong one.

Can anyone confirm this is true and there's 2 types of manual cables?
    Thanks

The only two I can think of is left and right hand drive.

The probably vary between series one and two.

Mine fitted spot on, I've never had a problem with manual or auto cables on my 1.5d or my GTi when I had that.

So, is your cable type the same as the one on the right? with the large plastic bit on it?

Yes mate the one I wanted fitted was same as the one on the right of the picture and wouldn't fit due to the big white plastic part that goes through bulk head.

Just to keep this updated turns out there is defo 2 types of manual clutch cables both have different size to go through bulk head.
Had another look today and after about 10mins getting the car into reverse I just started to let the clutch out and the biting point was around 1mm off the floor. Not good...

Bit more news after speaking with certain motorsport company's one of them has advised me it sounds more like a clutch itself issue rather than the cable.
So I've also found out the Saxo manual clutch cables are different from the 106 hence why the last time I wanted it changing it wouldn't go through the bulk head.
So I have finally got a pug 106 quicksilver genuine manual clutch cable so I will get that fitted when it arrives then I can eliminate the cable if it's still causing problems and look more towards the clutch.

Great news guys: had a mate come round and fitted my new manual adjustment cable for me and all is excellent. Goes in to every gear 1st time and clutch biting point is no longer on the floor.
    3rd time lucky
