Relocating PAS pump

  1. #1
I will be moving the power steering pump in my turbo build, I am wondering if it's possible to put it behind the dashboard?
Then it's unseen and out the way. Would it make any whirring noises or whatever? And can it be stood up vertically or does it have to be level?

alrite mate, I think it would make a little noise as it is an oil pump...(turbo noise should disguise that though!) maybe close it off if under passenger foot well, your bothered about the noise? you could also get some kind of rubber mount to stop the vibration too. not too sure if it would have to level or not....probably best for it to be imo

IIRC I think ross relocated his in his 106, might be worth talking to him ,

Hmm just don't want to put it under my boot floor cos i need to drill a hole for the filler neck also my swirl pot etc will be going under there.

I actually moved mine about 5cm back to make way for my boost pipes without modifying the pipes, if that's your problem, or are you wanting it to look neater in the bay?

Both, look neater and make room. I want the bay to be as simple as possible! Ecu going in the glove box, fuse box under dash. And want power steering moving too

I've seen it relocated behind the passenger seat just need longer piping obviously, trying to picture how it would go behind the dash, maybe where the airbag ecu goes?

Well I am thinking of the battery behind the passenger seat? That's another thing, I could put a race battery in each duct behind the rear quarter trims, so it's balanced evenly and they're hidden away? Many questions!!

Hmm, are you stripped in the back? I just have my battery in the boot to the right, helps shift some of the weight to the back as well

Yes but I have a wooden, carpeted floor so can't really have it in the boot, also the cage is in the way to where you have yours.
If I just have 2 race batteries like I say, will that give the same power and charge as a normal one?

never really used a race battery, surely one would be acceptable though? just make sure you have the right gauge wire

No because with one they go dead quickly and often need jumping? I've got some awesome plans but many questions

oh, that sucks then! i'm sure you'll work something out, once your boosting you'll think everything was worth it, trust me!

There's no need to relocate it for a boosted build in a saxo/106 although you can if you really want to. I did the first few builds but the last one put it back in the engine bay as it was too noisy for my liking in the passenger compartment.

Is that under the dash in passenger footwell?
Is it just a whirring noise when turning or a constant noise? I won't be fully stripped out so that might quieten the noise a bit?
Depends how loud it actually is!

It's loud. Not as bad as running a fuel pump in the car but still frigging irritating. It's behind the passenger seat on those photos
