Power steering problem

Having a problem with my power steering and it's not like any I have heard so far!
When I start my engine the pump runs for 20/30 seconds then stops'if I switch the engine off and start it again the very same happens.
I wired a switch to put a negative on the relay which will switch it on and leave it on with no drop off after 20/30 seconds but now as a result my check engine light has come on!
Just wondering can anyone help with this one please.

    Hi dunne1145!

Alternator after engine starts begin to suply positive in the thin wire. That is the way your relay start the DA pump. If you give negative in that wire, battery light will turn on.
Try to give positive on the thin green wire. That will start the DA pump.

Sorry for my english but i'm portuguese.

    No prob thanks for reply
My battery light is not on it's the check engine light that remains on when I override the relay.
It seems that the negative is dropping off my relay few seconds after start up that's why I'm trying to override this way'there seems to be 14.2 V on the coil positive😳

Ya all good it's just the negative seems to be dropping of the coil of the power steering relay about 20 seconds after I start the engine it's very consistent!and if I put a direct negative on the relay to hold it on it will stay on but also brings on engine check light😢

Have you tried changing the relay?

Got sorted just pulled all power steering out and fitted a standard rack, think it was a ecu problem

ECU don't give squat about the PAS. it will have been a dodgy wire somewhere!

It was the negative coming from the ECU that kept dropping off for some reason and the wire was good 0,02 ohms 😳
But yes it could have been external to the ecu but we pulled the whole engine loom out onto the ground and checked it and re wrapped it with loom tape'im happy with the standard rack as I'm building this Saxo for racing it's better with this rack😄
