acceleration issue (corsa b 1.6)

Sluggish, slowly dying on me, barely makes an effort to 70mph and when it does the eml comes on intermitently. Drinks a shed load of fuel and struggles climbing hills or reversing/ 1st gear.

I've replaced catalytic converter, ht leads, coil pack, spark plugs, oil, fuel filter, cleaned throttle body... no changes.

My only other options i can think of are the maf sensor but can't find one anywhere for a x16xe engine.. possibly the o2 sensor or fuel pump..

Need a diagnostics test but don't the eml need to stay on for the tool to pick up error code? What you guys reckon the problem is From experience in general?

Edited because the problem I had was a 1.2 Corsa's MAF not the 1.6. My bad.

Knowing a little bit of Vauxhall, I'd say X comes before Y engines.

Which means it'll have a MAP sensor NOT a MAF sensor like you get on Y engines.

Yeah finally solved that today doing a little research as its the x16xe engine. Some idiot told me it was a maf sensor on vauxhall forums :/ im new to these engines so haven't a clue what is has or don't have... someone suggested solenoid valve? I'm waiting on my made to bring his hand held diagnostic tool as the one he used with the laptop couldn't pick up a connection and he said the software wasn't great on his vista.

Yeah most people on Vauxhall Forums don't know what they're talking about either... Unless it's finance.

I'm sure it'll be a MAP sensor problem

No idea, it'll be on the inlet between the cylinder head and the throttle body. on the inlet manifold itself.

Can you see it? it's probably a 3 or 4 wire sensor.

Nope, map sensor is fine but going to get a diagnostic tomorrow because i cleaned the egr valve and made no difference... getting on my tits tbh.

They can suffer with leaking inlet manifold gaskets, they can use a little more juice when the inlet manifold gasket is leaking. You can spray the gasket area and the manifold securing bolts with carb cleaner. If you have the engine idling and spray the carb cleaner in between the where the gasket is fitted. The revs will increase instantly.
    I hope this helps.

Yeah the guy at the garage sprayed some stuff around the inlet manifold and it was almost cutting out.. but thats because my idiot mate didn't tighten the bolts on it while i fitted the water bottle and battery etc. But yeah the guy suggested getting a new inlet gasket but also getting it diagnosed just incase.

It's been diagnosed as the egr valve as it wasn't responding on the scscreen. However another issue was the 1.6 engine had the 1.4 ecu in it as well. The guy suggested blanking or replacing egr valve as well as a new inlet gasket and clean it out a bit.. if all else fails it will need to go on a rolling road to map the ecu which im not planning to do.
