rear tow hook rust

   Rear tow hook is very rusty and I was wondering if you can just cut it off and replace it with a tow strap or something? Would it cause any problems in future mot?

   Tape off around it, wire brush it and respray it

   May have a go at that but it does look quite pitted to be fair not sure how it will go.

   I believe it's all welded,if you want to take it off you need to cut it off with an angle grinder and weld on a new one in,instead if you want to fit a tow strap you need to make sure you pick up a good spot to bolt it in that is solid and able to withstand the pulling force when towing the car.

   When I had a look under the car there is already a hole in the bracket that the hook is welded into I'm thinking maybe I could just chop it off then bolt a strap through that hole. Must be strong enough if that's what the hook is welded to right?
