Power steering pump

  1. #1
I know it's the pump that's gone but when I take the key out the power steering pump still keeps making the fan sound. Only way to stop it is take the power from the battery. As soon as it goes back on the noise comes back and alarm goes off.
Long story short. Do I have a short somewhere or is it the normal symtoms of the pump failing
    Thanks

The only thing making the fan sound is the fan, which stays on sometimes after the engine is switched off.

It's defo the power steering pump making the noise. The "fan noise"
Is the only way I can describe the noise. But am I right in thinking it should turn off when the key is out.

If it's not switching off then i'd be looking at a fault with the ignition switch.

Check your connections are good and clean on your alternator.

Don't know what I did but after hitting it with a hammer it stoped it making the noise. I have fitted a new pump this morning anyway and all seems to ok.
