Important! : Speedo got a mind of its own.

Right so after getting new loom in checking everything on car before taking for drive everything checked out to be ok as before no problems no lights no problems with clocks speedo or rev counter.

After taking for a spin today I have found one intermittent problem that was not their before.

SO when getting to about 30MPH or 40MPH or above on motorway etc.

Speed counter starts to spike up and down goes back to correct speed then spikes to zero and back up again and jumps about.

This has only started happening since new loom fitted. Parked to turnd off restarted drove for a few miles seems to of stopped. Stopped again drove for some more miles and started doing it again. Stopped again drove some more and has since not done it.

What is the cause of this. As I know theirs no problems with the instruments as before I had loom took out or had problems on one ie when got the car was working spot on however loom was found to be rotten and caused a bunch of problems on my car later down the line that has since been fixed and sorted.

So any one got any advise on what this can be.

Checked all connectors on the back of clock their all in and not lose. No rust or brakes or any corrosion on the connections.

Could this be a voltage problem with the new loom or could it be something else that is going on.

Hope someone can give advise on this and what is wrong and going wrong on it.

Yup unstable voltage output from a failing alternator, meaning 1 min it puts out 12v next minute it puts out 8v.Leading to bouncing needle, also check the alternator connections.

But I don't get how this shows up now yet it was perfectly fine on old loom other than my fuel gauge wasn't working proper on it, now got new loom in everything is spot on apart from this problem. So saying alternator?

I'll give them a look in a money on the connectors. Anything to look out for or check?

Corrosion on the connectors or a split/damaged wire are the things to look for.

Just had alternator tester on it for charging and battery fully charged and with everything on in car from lights heating radio and revving charging is ok but not going to maximum green light only yellow saying and indicating charging ok and not going to maximum.

Will have a look at the connection for it to see if as advised above.

had a good luck at connections on alternator all fine and wires no brakes or anything in it from what I can see.

Right took clocks out again and connected back up making sure all connections are good. Still doing it but not as much as was before.

Any advise on what else to now check or is this looking more like alternator yet checked with tester for alternator that shows its doing what it needs to be? Guessing this has something to do with new loom being fitted but Everything that was not working is now working other than speed dial with mind of its own. Only thing I can think of that is when the old one was working with the flue gauge not working was in a way diverting power to the other clocks. And now that its got fully working loom in it has developed or found other problem related to iver new loom or related to alternator

So anyone got any ideas what this cold be as am out of ideas to think what this could be now. Is their any way of getting some sort of testing unit on it while driving or having on roller to test voltage when in motion etc on roller like?

Other option is to get a garage with a live diagnostics unit connected to a laptop.1 person drives while the other monitors the performance with the laptop plugged into the ecu.

No doubt that is going to cost to get it tested no doubt. is their any kits you can buy that plug into ECU on cheap to read everything while driving or software can use on laptop etc.

Yes there are kits but a garage won't cost the earth.tbh mate you'll end up going round in circles buying parts diagnostics is the way to go.i like others can only sit here and make suggestions based on problems encountered in the past.what year is the vts?

They have a sensor at the back of the gearbox that may be worth a quick check.

Not sure what going on now. Seems it has stopped doing it. Could this still of been resetting or getting use to a new full wiring loom added as I did have a number of problems with when starting up for first time few things got sorted and then found other bits.
