No power at all

    Hi,

Got a bit of a problem... Was planning on going on a little drive as the weather has been brilliant today. Went outside and tried to start the car but it seems there is no power at all.

As i turned the key, all the lights came on like normal, but before the engine started to turn over, everything died! No power at all, not even the little clock which stays on all the time.

It was running fine this morning, and i hadn't left any lights on e.t.c

What should i be looking for/checking? Any help would be brilliant!

    Thanks

Sounds like a dead battery, how old is it?

Not sure on the battery.. Its looking quite old, no record of it being changed in the SH.. Car is a 2001 model, so its its the original, its probably just that.

We're going to check it over tomorrow, but just wanted to find out if there could be anything else which has caused this...

    Thanks mate

Battery, fuel cut off switch (big red button at top right hand of bay as you look at it)
bet it's battery related. if you can jump start it... that'll be the cause.

Check the battery connections for secureness.

    Cheers!

Will try that tomorrow. Could it be any fuses which are causing the problem???

It was so weird, it just suddenly went... I just had a thought... I let me mate have a go in a carpark, but he stalled it about 5 times. This was on Sunday. Also getting use to the car, its been driven lots of short journeys... I drove it yesterday and today fine, but could the repeated stalling then starting drain the battery?

Rather embarrassingly, it was something so simple!

One of the clamps from the battery terminal had came loose, so there was no power supply from the battery. A quick clean up and tighten and it was running fine again.

    Ooops!

I chased a power steering and fan issue for months. Turned out to be a connection from the battery to the fusebox had come loose due to the battery clamp being broken. Shame i didnt check there first!

My point being, the worst case is not always the reason!
