Driveshaft seal "teeth"

  1. #1
It's been atleast 5 years since I fitted driveshaft seals but I've gone and got some replacements today and noticed they now have white plastic teeth.

Which way do these teeth face, into the gearbox or towards the wheel? At the moment I'm getting mixed answer so thought I'd ask on here, in my opinion it's teeth in due to the metal ring

But then I've had people say it's the other way and also someone else say one side is teeth in and the other is teeth out, exactly how the next picture shows.

Rather get them put in right 1st time so I don't need to strip the driveshafts out again and I can enjoy going out in the car again.

teeth out and not flush, should protrude a little bit.

Thanks! Is that on both sides?
I had noticed on the old seals it's teeth in but after looking at the new seals and the debate with a few friends, I had to check. The old ones are also sat flush as far as I remember, would sitting flush make much difference? Just incase I end up tapping them in too far

Haynes is what started the debate haha. The manual didn't show any seals with the teeth and also shows its sat flush but as I say, it's been atleast 5 years since I done driveshaft seals so will be taking on all the advice I get. I also know one side was leaking before I removed the engine and box whilst sitting flush so it probably explains why now seeing as I can't see any damage to the old seals.
