Power steering?

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

Currently going through with doing a engine swap and prepping the bay, Iv been having a issue with my power steering pump and now finally got round to taking the pump out. There seems to be a crack in the black part (see picture bellow).

Just wanted your opinion on it and if it's normal

Normal it's just where the casing meets each end.

Yes it is,it's just a metal sleeve and the ends don't meet flush,if you're worried about it leaking it won't.

There are two pipes coming off the pump, trace them through to the rack checking for signs of leaks.also each end of the steering rack are rubber conical shaped sleeves these can perish and leak fluid.

I'll check them mate cheers but the leak seems to be coming from the actual pump/reservoir

Does you pump have the filler bottle connected to the slam panel? If so check the pipe leading from it for leaks.

There is only two pips that was connected high and low pressure no others pipes

Right so the leak can only be in the pipes, rack or pump itself.lay a sheet of card under the car when it's stood for a while, might give an idea of where it's leaking.

i went ahead and did what you said stevo and it seems to be only leaking steering fluid from the pump/bottle??

What sort of pump is it. Filler bottle on pump or on the end of a pipe and bolted onto front panel by the bonnet catch?
  14. #14
Filtered pump I beleave there ain't nothing near bonnet catch

Okay. The o ring seal at the bottom of the funnel might be your culprit
