TU3 Engine Spares

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

I've recently brought a Furio as a project car.

The problem I have is I brought it off my brother really cheap, because he had semi blown the engine. he thrashed it without checking the oil level, and seems to have only got away with screwing one of the pistons/oil seals/(liners?) up. the engine still runs, but is lumpy on start up (before the oil gets round) then is fine up until you get to 60mph where it miss fires.

As this is a project car, and I'm not relying on it as a daily driver. I have plenty to have a go at stripping the engine down and rebuild it myself. Can anyone recommend websites/places where I can get hold of TU3 engine parts, preferably brand new (I'm struggling to find anywhere), the main issue I'm having is trying to find the liners, but the rest of the components would be great as well.

I know some of you may turn round and say its not worth it, just get a replacement (been on other forums, with different cars and that has been the standard response to everything). But I would like to keep the original engine, seeing's how the engine does work.

    Cheers

how do you know the liners and pistons are shot?

Until I strip down the engine, don't know for certain.

It is an educated guess from, my local trusted garage. the engine seems to only fire on 3 cylinders on start up, but once there's a bit of oil pressure its fine up to 60mph. The coil pack, spark plugs etc. had been changed trying to correct the fault - the fault reduces slightly the more oil you put into the engine.
from memory, they said it was something along the line of, the piston seal has been damaged, or possibly damaged thee cylinder linings/liners. so without oil pressure there's no or very little seal in the combustion chamber to get a successful combustion - hence the misfiring on start up and at high-speed where the engine works harder.

But I don't want to strip the engine down, find out what the specific problem with the engine is and then spend months trying to get hold of the spares.

    Checked compression?

I personally haven't checked the compression no.

But what I am after is websites/places where I can get hold of TU3 engine parts (preferably brand new). it could be something minor, but in case it is something major I can get hold of the parts easy enough.

I'm to busy at the moment to work on the car but when do get round to it I will have plenty of time to mess about with the engine and find and solve any issues. But there no point in me going through all the agro of stripping the engine down (if necessary) if its impossible for me to get hold of the parts. In which case I will resort to plan B which is get a replacement engine.

Tbh with the price of engines now,it would be cheaper to buy a lower mileage engine.then do a cambelt change and general service.
