VTS Headgasket

  1. #1
I'm In the process of rebuilding a VTS head, and was wondering if there is any way to tell if it has been skimmed before ? The old gasket was a multilayer gasket, so I'm guessing that means it's been changed in the past ? But is there any way to tell if it's been skimmed and by how much

    Cheers

accurately measuring it is about the only option

If it helps number is laser etched into the head. If it's been skimmed then it'll be gone.

foolproof way to check for piston valve clearance --cos you will never get comp ratio too high with these engines.
clay on piston --oil clay --fit head with gasket tighten 4 h/bolts -set upcam timing --turn engine over 4 turns --remove and check thickness of clay --if more than 2mm -you can fit thinner gasket to bring down gap to 2mm MINIMIUM
