Cannot remove VTS auxilliary tensioner securing bolt

  1. #1
Hi, help needed please. Done searches etc and been under the bonnet 2-3 times and asked a mexchanic even but cannot get to this torx securing bolt to get it off. I can't put in the new tensioner and adjusting bolt till I do and it should be such pi$$ easy job.Belt is screeching, been like it for yonks and knackered old adjusting bolt and drilled into tensioner so cannot salvage that...although it's holding firm cos the torx bolt can't be moved. I can't fit a torx on the end of a socket to get between panel and bolt.

I've tried sticking the torx in and turning it with a spanner but I'm never gonna get the elbow grease behind doing that. I must be missing something as it seems to be real bad engineering or someones put a wrong bolt in...if it was a hex it'd be off easy. Is there a tool or spanner that will fit it. I can't bring myself to go to a garage just yet as kint and I can see easily how to do it all...any advice appreciated ta.. I know it's known to be a dodgy set up, from searches and it's different to VTR's etc..

It's the one in the middle of the pic to the right of the belt and pulley and nearer the grond than the others...a torx bolt and can't get any tool on it..

take your engine mount off that side and drop the engine down a bit

Thanks Gandi699. That's exactly what the mechanic said but it just seemed like alot to do for one flippin bolt. I've done an average amount of work but never dropped the engine and it sounds a bit daunting. I've no pulleys or anything. I'll have see if Haynes covers it. Any advice on dropping it would be cool if Haynes don't cover it. Wouldn't it twist stuff to do it jus one side? Peace

jack the car up high and get it on axle stands. Then put a block of wood on your jack and place this under the sump to take it weight, unbolt engine mount and lower the jack down a little at a time to reveal the bolt you need to get to.
When done just jack back up and it'll maybe take a bit of waggling and jiggling to get it the mount to go back but it will. 30 mins job tops
