Changing oil grade

  1. #1
So I got a car which the manufacturer recommends 5w30. The previous owner has been using 10w40, took it to garage and they've used 5w40... How bad is it to change oil grades? Could it cause damage as I've herd switching from semi synthetic to full synthetic can cause problems ? Thanks

stick to the right grade by climate for your country ie: if its 5w30 for UK climate stick to that. Oil is cheap enough so just drop it out and fill with new correct grade with a filter change

    Hi

What car is it? Certain cars are designed to run on many oil grades, others are more fussy.

    It's a Vauxhall vectra c 2.2 petrol 16v

I was just wondering can any damage be done swapping from 10w40fully syn to 5w30 semi synthetic? Or viceaversa? Tbh I don't know what it's been running on in the past...

    Hi

Those engines can use a 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40 and 5w-40, as per the GM specs, a 10w-40 is also okay, although not approved. There is no issue in swapping between the grades.

    Cheers
