Temp sensor and overheating

    Hi, just a quick question.
I had another issue with my saxo, it was overheating when idle. I'd stop and let it idle, after 4-5mins fan would turn on, after additional 2mins I'd see smoke from under the hood. Checked it, it was coolant fluid dripping from cap onto engine (exhaust manifold is it under there?).
Since I had no time another guy took it to service and they replaced that electric plug next to the thermostat (1.1 engine 2002.my), and now its not overheating, fan comes on at same time as before, but car doesnt overheat and fan stops after a minute. All is good.

So whats that plug? Temperature sensor? How did that stop my car from overheating since fan kicked in before too. I'd just like to know, guy who took it to shop didn't wait for explaination..

iirc thats the coolant temp sensor or the connector to the upper O2 sensor

green or blue plug ? i remember that one of them is the CTS for the ECU and the other one is for the dashboard. At least its so on my 99' saxo.

    thats the cts

Yeah thats the one that looks replaced, I just dunno how could it have caused overheating if my fan was still starting and running even then. Unless fan has 2 speeds or something..

The cap on the cooling liquid reservoir visible in picture above in lower left corner was also replaced.

Maybe the cap was bad and not building pressure so liquid temperature went to boiling faster then fan could react and the sensor was changed because my water overheating light came on only one time it steamed, not other 2-3 times? Maybe if due to lower pressure water went to boiling faster, it created some water steam which prevented water pump from doing its work or something.. Well, its not leaking or overheating now, hopefully that period of 3 times x 4-5 minutes didnt damage my engine.

just keep an eye on your coolant levels and watch out for foamy grease in the tank.

    you should be fine though.
