Saxo vts code: p1327 knock sensor

  1. #1
As title, When you first start it, it idles fine on fast idle (no smoke) But once abit warm when the rev's drop it starts running like shit, Idle lumpy but not misfiring. starts to smoke alot / stinks of fuel when it's idling like this.

Code reader said knock sensor P1327

I searched and read most people say they rarely fail and to try a coilpack first - I've switched coilpack and it's still the same.

I did switch the map sensor and it idled good for a short while then started lumpy again.

Stinks of fuel - but no misfire / revs totally normal

So i'm thinking it could well be the knock sensor? When I deleted the code it ran perfect for a short while then the EML came on again with the same code and was running like shit again.

I had a feel and its 100% plugged in

    Any help appreciated thanks

Might be worth changing over the lambda sensor if you have a spare lying about, stinking of fuel means it's overfueling.

    after some more searching;

    P1327
For S2000P; check ignition primary pattern for excessive peak voltage and spark line too short. Should be greater than 1ms. This fault code is usually caused by interference.

It has only happened since fitting my rev limiter / launch - I did foolishly use the scotch locks. So Incase of interference I have now unwired it / cut and resoldered the coilpack wiring.

Would seem its still not right. - Off to re-wire it

re-wiring / re-soldering hasn't sorted it - the problems only started after messing with this wiring, So must be the cause

Mine throws up the same code, I was told it was the coil pack but to be honest the car runs fine so I just deleted the code

are you using lexia? not yet used a generic code reader work on anything french with success, but lexia works really well, generic stuff tends to throw up spurious codes.

Using a cheap generic reader, been accurate for all my other fault codes - would a different reader bring up a different code?

Is a vtr 8v knock sensor is same as the vts? The plugs the same and I have one lying about

If not I can get another on Tues new for £28

A second hand loom is around the same price

VTR Knock sensor fits / works

    But its still the same!

Steve mentioned the lambda sensor, the fault code is saying sensor 2 so I assume that's the POST-cat one?

I have it sleeved and tie-wrapped up in the bay, So cant see it getting damaged?

Tried it unplugged incase it was reading wrong and didn't make a difference to how it ran.

    Thanks for any ideas

    a summary of the problem cause I've rambled on abit - just hard to mention all the factors. But basically;

Car running 100% for 2 years (new coilpack / MAP sensor / ICV etc in this time)

Fitted a OMEX launch control / Limiter (used the scotch locks)

Ran fine once started (so thinking it may not be wiring related)

Only started running lumpy / overfueling after using the launch / limiter a few times. (leads me to think its sent a sensor haywire, Can't be the coilpack as i've changed it)

What would you try from here?

    Thanks alot

Yep that will be post cat mate, have you tried unplugging the battery overnight?Other thing could be the coolant temperature sensor gone bad, fooling the ecu into thinking the engine is cold thus overfueling.

Yeah i've reset the ecu by leaving it unplugged, does delete the codes

But does come back after a few mins of idling then starts with the crappy idle.

Also deleted the codes with the EML reader - does the same, always comes back the lambda sensor 2 and the misfire code.

Will try my brothers temp sensor tonight as that's a easy one to try, Cheers Steve!

Finding it hard to source a 3 plug 16v loom..

I've changed temp sensor for a known working one - no luck

Changed spark plugs to brand new NGK-Rs - no luck

Changed / tried another knock sensor and crank shaft sensor- no luck

Tried / using another coilpack (well HT lead set-up) - no difference

Starts and runs but a slight misfire / not sparking proper at low revs but not running on 3. Throws out loads of unburnt fuel and EML flashing.

I read EML flashing is ignition related, but all the ignition parts have been changed apart from the wiring - but people solder / splice ford coilpack connectors on without problems, So could this really be the problem?

    - may try to extend the wiring abit as the fault codes common causes says 'ignition wiring too short' and When i've cut / soldered and cut and resoldered I would have reduced the wiring by 10-20mm - Think that would cause a problem?

Or could the omex launch control of damaged the ECU ?

wont be the wire length, "short" means just that, live going to earth.

I might be wrong but doesn't the 2nd lambda need to be in an air flow? Also could the problem of the fuel smell but an injector stuck open?

Take another look at the main earths etc.
