How much can a clutch take?

Made a big mistake the other day. Took a mate out driving after i passed, and stupidly said id let him behind the wheel.

Hes passed his test but obviously uninsured on my car, so i took him to this little private land area.

As soon as he got in it he decided he would like to do a wheel spin but didnt know how, and revved the shit out of my engine whilst having the gear half engaged with the handbrake on. Then he drove off two curbs at 20 mph like it was a go kart. He wouldnt stop the cunt. Not happy atall and ive learnt my lesson no one drives my car again.

But basically i dropped him off and went out with a few other mates in their cars, but had my windows down trying to listen for dodgy noises, but one thing that did stand out was the smell. It stucnk of burning clutch for about half an hour.

Has this damaged my clutch badly? It doesnt smell now but I dont have the money for a new one and im really pissed off with my self for letting someone do this to my car. Id never do it to some one elses pride and joy, let alone a mates. Sorry for the essay any help appriciated

Your clutch will be fine. The smell always occurs when the clutch overheats. Don't let pricks "try" to drive your car again!

Yeah he said it was fine and he knew what he was talking about. SO I asked him to point out the oil breather pipe and the manifold. He couldnt. So pissed off with him its just dis respectful he knows how much the car means to me.

    Cheers for your help guys

I have a friend who used to be like that with my stuff. Now, he knows not to piss around with me too much.

if clutch was cooked and you can smell it then its probably taken a few miles off its life, you can destroy a clutch by doing hill starts within a few mins let alone wheelspinning, more damage than you know, just get ready to charge him if it starts slipping in high revs

call me stupid but how do you know when it's slippin?

Yea im gettin worried now. Its not engaging gears properly, when i accelerate after engaing second it just pulls a little bit and revs really high and then sinks back to the correct place.

when you put your footdown and the car goes nowhere and the revs rise thats the clutch slipping, wheelspins and burnouts and dodgy hill starts (reving to 6k whilst trying to pull away and letting the clutch out a little etc) will destroy a clutch in minutes. its not big and its not clever

Sounds like its slipping matey, go up a hill and stick it in 5th to finish it off.. not helping, what I ment by that was if the revs climb then he's deffo mullered your clutch.

my mate burnt the clutch out on his sax just by dipping the clutch and revving the engine!

He would never pay. He would just tell everyone im a knob so thats a no go. Just have to save for a new one. Im thinkin 200 mark?
