Help - Uprated engine mount issues with pictures

  1. #1
So guys after not been out in the car for a few weeks decided to take it for a drive today.
After just a few miles down the road I hit a pot hole, knew I had hit it quite bad,
So after less than a mile down the road the car and dash start rattling and vibrating so pulled over and had a look.
Soon as I pressed the throttle something shot off the car and hit the floor.

    Here it is:

Couldn't figure out what it was but knew it wasn't a genuine part.

So after checking the engine mount under the ecu tray I find this:

Looks like the spacer is off the engine mount and that the bolt has snapped.

Does anyone no what size bolt etc I need to replace the bolt.

    Thanks

probably an M10x1.5 bolt, best to take the rest of it apart and confirm, as that's totally different to a standard mounting.

Thanks mate will strip the mount off and have a closer look.
What's the best way to remove, should I place jack under the sump to stop engine from moving when I take mount off.
Also it's a spoox uprated mount not standard.

Has it snapped or has the nut come off, these mounts can be a pain to tighten.

Hi Alex yes it's snapped and the nut must have still been attached to the top part of the bolt that snapped.

Quite sure it wouldn't have happened with a 12.9 grade bolt.was it a normal generic bolt fitted?

Can you get the mount off to have a look?

Going to try and get it off tomorrow Alex.
Hopefully I will be able to remove with the bolt snapped in it.

    Update guys.
Just took the mount off and the bolt hadn't snapped but there isn't enough thread and the bolt isn't long enough to go through the mount to put a nut on it but was ok before this happened.
    Very confused here.

if its not long enough it has snapped.

have you got the nut off the top or just that washer?

    tried jacking the engine up?

I had the jack under the sump just taking the weight while I removed the mount and checked the bolt and its 100 percent not snapped mate but doesn't appear to lift up anymore to go all way through the mount.
    Very strange

Also have this video taken from my other thread

You probably need to lift the engine up a bit more.

Is fiddly but if you get enough bolt back through the mount you can use a large hex key to put between the bolt head and mount (on the underside) so it doesn't twist when doing up the nut.

Thanks Alex and welsh pug that makes sense.
    Will give it a go.
Any suggestions with my video above mate lol

I'd get the mount sorted and see if it still makes a noise.
The mount arm will just be sitting on chassis, metal on metal.

    Will do Alex thanks.

Found a picture of how the mounts are from when I got them new

So jacked the engine up a little just enough to get the. New but on the threads and then let the jack off then started to tighten the nut so it started lifting the bolt up through the mount.
Did a few turns then it wouldn't tighten anymore as the bolt on the bottom was spinning.

Should the bolt go through the hole under where the bolt is as its only through one at the minute and how do you hold the bottom of the bolt to tighten the top?

It should come from a hole that is seen in that picture. That bolt should be reachable from inner arch, s1 xsi unfortunately didn´t have a hole there so I had to make one Hope that helps!

Brill thanks for your help mate will give it a go from the inner arch.
    Appreciated mate

It's hard to explain but you can use a large hex key to help with the tightening.
If you hold the long bit you can position the small end so it sits between the bolt head and the aluminium mount.

I see what you mean mate, Ye.
Does the bolt need to go through the blank hole as shown in picture?

    Update.

So spoke with pug1off today to confirm gaining access to the engine mount to hold the bolt from the bottom while I tighten the top and they confirmed what huliblus confirmed with regards to accessing it. Thanks dude.
But I noticed I'm not using the stock engine mount buffer that comes with the original mount. Should I be using it with the Uprated mount or should it be without???

    Thanks all
