Temp Gauge

  1. #1
    Hi
The temp gauge stays in the white, never moves more than 1/4 inch. So I plugged in my laptop and it records the engine temp steadily rising, so I'm assuming the sender is ok, it's an ecu controlled fan by the way no fan switch. I'm wondering if the temp gauge can be replaced on it's own?
On a side issue does anyone know what engine temp the fan should come on at, this car seems to run quite hot and I've yet to hear the fan come on, oh and the fan does work as I've put power to it.
    many thanks for any help.

you'll need new clocks for a new temperature gauge, is the sensor on the engine working ok? There is one for the gauge and one for the ecu (i belive this is the same on mk2s). If you need to change it youll need a new set of dials
If the temperature seems to sit down low, warm up slowly in traffic and rapidly cool again when moving then it points to a stuck open or removed thermostat

Thanks for that given that it's a 2003 1.1 petrol could you tell me which sensor is which?

Sorry don't know how to edit post. Temp gauge doesn't move except for slight movement in the white. Don't think the thermostat is stuck. There is a sensor on the thermostat housing and one on the block behind it. As I said I can track the engine warming up with my laptop plugged into the diagnostic port.

Sounds like a faulty gauge to me as suggested change clocks is the gauge registering temp at all?

Some saxo's the blue sensor on the thermostat is for the gauge.

I take it both of these sensors are related to the temp, but which one is for the gauge? I can check it then before doing anything with the temp gauge itself.
