Steering Rack

I want to get rid of my power steering on my car... Hate the way it handles with it. The pump failed on my last saxo I really liked the way it felt, just a lint in the arse to park lol.

Can I just remove the pump and blank it off? Or should I replace with a none power steering rack?

On most cars the turn ratio is different on PAS & non PAS racks, as the rack currently electric, you could just unplug the rack to see what it drives like. If that works you could always put it through a relay & have a button on the dash for parking

Running it with it unplugged is like driving a tank. All that fluid you have to push around makes it alot heavier than a non-pas model.

i emptied (most) of the fluid and blanked the pipes off and it was alot alot better than with it just unplugged

so you can just remove PAS pump then, cool. How did you remove the fluid, did you have to take the rack off OR did you just keep turning the wheel working the fluid out of the rack?

get a rack from a non PAS car would be best suggestion-if hats what you want to do --but if you then add loads of power you will want the PAS back

At the minute I want to get rid of it because the steering feels ever so light... too light that you don't feel like you have control of the car.

What would be the main route cause of this? Or could it be multiple things and is just a case of trial and error?

Is the PAS connected to the ECU in any way, does the motor just run at a constant speed or is it variable dependant on road speed, just wondering it this could be tweaked if it did/does.
