Power Steering Going Off And On - Battery Flashing!

  1. #1
Well my saxo has been playing up for weeks so I decided to charge the battery! Thinking the cold might of killed the car! but when charging my battery was at 75%

I waited for it to go to 100 and put battery back in the car! Then I start the engine, the battery light starts flickering and the power steering works and doesn't works and goes off and on like crazy until i pull out and put my foot down!

After I put my foot down the battery stops flicking and the power steering works! and well today my car suddenly stalled and was struggling to start in the middle of the road! I opened bonnet as quick as I could cause didn't want no coppers coming and just pushed everything down on battery and it started again no problems

everything works with full power except power steering randomly flickers on and off when car is switched off for a while..

When I tried to set off home after leave car a good 5 hours, I had same problem but its really scarey cause I was in another town! I don't want my car breaking down in random places!

So what is causing the power steering to do this, my power steering fluid is at its max but it must be a eletrical issue due to the fact that its the battery light that flashes..

What could it be and how Could I fix this! Its really bizzar and can't find a reason why it would do this?

Someone said if a negative isn't connected tightly so i check my negative and it seems tight on the battery!

    Any ideas mates?

Either a bad connection somewhere like the alternator,or the alternator itself is goosed mate.

    Can a radio cause this?

My front 2 speakers are plugged powered into the back of the radio but my front 2 speakers don't even work!

Hmm, I do have some water dripping onto the passenger floor! Could that be causing problems?

Get a multimeter, Check how many amps and volts you get while the engine is on and off. Always disconnect the radio when you have a problem with it.

Battery on its way out or alternator.

the water could come from a leak at the bottom of the windscreen seal, you could just use some silicone. Throw a bag of rice on the footwell if you want to dry it quicker.

Well I took the front 2 speakers out and cleaned the terminals

Squeazed the negative terminal with a pair of pliers and hammered it on so its really tight which kinda solved the problem because my car had no problems setting off tonight although I will have to wait till morning!

Now saying since doing that my alternator belt is sqealing like mad
