Important! : Rear grumbling and noise. Bushes? Updated + Pictures

So am looking to maybe change and upgrade them. How hard are they to swap out and change around for some purple version powerflex added in?

Also I am getting sort of a little rumbling noise when going over uneven roads like a little rumble or grumble now and then is this due to bushes being fucked and past it and need changing? I have managed to check the wheel bearings and also axle for play and con but all fine. Is their anything else I could check or would this be the bushes that need to be replaced?

the 4 that I have put squares around How simple are they to change and sort out if them?

Easiest way to get them out is to burn them out preferably with the axle removed from the car. I don't really think they would be causing the grumbling noise though although its worth checking all the nuts are tight on them.

From a guy today he thinks the bushes are rotted on them I have looked at them and seem pretty squished up in the back ones without jacking up and I have just added a topic in general chat as seeing powerflex has offer or some fucked up price on them for £18 so if price is true them am sure to be taking a trip down their tomorrow to pick up 10 packs or so or do group buy.

Well after spending a number of hours going thought eh car today took the wheel off and found missing bolt on this. Could this of caused grumbling when going over uneven roads and bumps? Also I have tightened it back and also got new bolt for it off another saxo this afternoon. But it seems the top section to it wobbles. I took the top bolt out and seems the plate moves up and down is this meant to do this ? or is this meant to be right and not have movement in it ? Is this fucked or is it meant to have a little movement in it so that it can be moved about?

Bolt that is in the red square was missing.

After tightening everything up, theirs no movement with wheel on no play no con. But when am driving am sill getting the grumbling noise but not as bad since fitting the bolt back in. Could this be bearing fucked on it? or could it still be the main bushes that the axle sits on that need to be replaced?

Thoughts on buying refurbished axle and adding in powerflex? Would it be worth spending the extra on it.

Price to get bushes and to be fitted in current axel £170?

Refurbished axle + powerflex bushes + fitting £375?

Extra £205 hmm Decisions to make I am after a new car but still I want to keep this as its a good run around no other faults other than few small ones.

This VTS I have is on its 2nd Axle since buying original. One fucked after about 8 months of ownership and had scrap yard axle fitted that cost me £130 all in for fitting and has been fine up until now had 3 years use out of it without problem until I have had it hired from it being too low on bottom end and then found the above with one of the bolts missing. Could this of fucked the bearing up inside that is causing the grumbling when going over uneven road or could be bushes and might well go for recon?

The exact same thing happened on my old vtr, that will have Deffo caused grumbling as without that bolt you're torsion bar is not supporting one side and all the weight is put on the shock, may have noticed that one side of the car is slightly lower than the other as well, check back of the wheel for rubbing as its probably been hitting the inner arch when going over bumps causing the noise you described, they play in the axle (other bolted part) is probably due to a worn Bush inside the axle behind that plate, which is not an easy job, replace the axle if you like but if it were me I would just get a high tensile bolt, re-tap the thread to suit new bolt and bolt the thing back together.

The bolt is for the rear ARB plate & should be bolted on.

Solved the grumbling nose. Was lose bolt not tightened in enough on shocker. Fucking bunch of cowboys doing crap job. Now plan doing all work myself and not spending shit at a garage where meant to do proper job and end up doing shit n could of easily fuked more up in process. One thing is for sure tho need bushes doing and have ready to go in. Is this simple to do taking eveything off hubs dropping axle and just removing old poping new in?

This is why I do most of the work to my own cars, the way I see it they don't care about your car unless they really love the job enough to care about every car like they would their own, like they say if you want something doing properly do it yourself! the axle isn't too difficult, a bit time consuming so make sure you do it when you've got time and don't need the car for a day or two. You can get away without disconnecting the brake lines as well if you take your time which saves bleeding them afterwards, otherwise its all just nuts and bolts. Axle bushes will probably need to be burnt out unless you have a press but shouldn't be too hard

Yeah I got press its weather or not I can fit to this lol. And yeah am learning more and more as I go on with this. All learning curve for me but am getting their and seeing why so many take time in learning this stuff so never ripped off.

Yeah probably easier to just burn them out to be honest then knock out the remains with a hammer/chisel. Its always good to learn new stuff anyways! Can be annoying when things don't go to plan but that's life anyways haha

As said above, if you want something doing propperly you do it yourself

axles are a bit of a nightmare tbh at first but once you've done it and put it all back together then you'll know off hand where everything goes

plus the satisfaction afterwards is great

Just make sure to tighten the damper bolts to torque spec only after the car is on the ground so that the bushes sits in the right position and won't wear prematurely,if you've already done it ignore this.
