Washer Pump

  1. #1
    Hi all

I've got an '02 plate (Mk2) Saxo Desire, and I'm pretty sure the washer pump has gone. The fuse is fine, and the wipers still work. However, there is no noise from the pump when I try and activate it using the dash controls.

I'm pretty happy about replacing the part myself, but I'm just a bit unsure which version I'll need - I've read that there are two or more versions available.

Is it possible to find out without having to take the wheel off and look at the actual pump?

    Thanks

You can see the pump/washer bottle if you look up from underneath the bumper.

Jack up the drivers side, put an axle stand under it, take off the wheel & remove the inner liner, you will then see the bottle, remove the wires & put a bulb across the end of the wire, turn on ignition, pull the lever, if the bulb lights it's your pump, if it doesn't it's your wiring down there.

    Clever!

I might give that a try this weekend.

Sometimes the pumps can get blocked with old screen wash and algae. But if the pump is definitely making no noise then I'd say fooked as the wiring never usually gives trouble. If you ring euro car parts and give your reg they usually supply the right one

There are 2 different pumps but they both work the same way and will fit on either or, trust me I have my old y regs washer bottle on my 53 plate vtr as mine packed up like yours, best bet is to take a trip down to your local scrappy and take a washer bottle of another one, or like said just go Euro car parts, wires tend to almost never fault on the pump tends to be pump itself that goes, should only cost you about a 10er or so
