Service Interval/Mileage

    Hi Everyone

Mr Not at all mechanically minded here !

My Saxo 1.1 Forte "W Reg" has done 34,000 miles since new but only just over 3,000 since its last service a year ago and I am getting email reminders from the place I went to that a service is due.

I presume (without having the handbook to...er,....hand) that the interval is 10,000 miles so am wondering how essential it is to have a service done now.

Car is running well and passed MOT just a couple of weeks ago with flying colours.

If it OUGHT to be serviced I will do so, but don't want to waste money.

    Any thoughts appreciated and acknowledged.

Changing the oil, filters and plugs is cheap if you DIY.

Obviously servicing is never a bad thing but in my personal opinion it doesn't really "Need" a service after that kind of mileage. If it was my car I would probably leave it until its done at least 6k but its up to you, everyone will have a different opinion.

Hi again derek like the guys have said 6k is regular maintenence time, much better to do all this stuff on your own, not only will you learn that most of it is extremely simple and easy enough to do but will feel rewarding after it is done, there are a lot of guides on forum on how to do services aswell

Personally though if it was me i would do a FULL service at 6k to give the old girl a better chance at a long easy life, FULL service meaning the following: engine oil change, gearbox oil change, air filter change, fuel filter change, clean throttle body with carb cleaner, pollen filter also but not essential.... Just take a once over at the car, underneath and in engine bay and check for signs of rust or wear, check for early signs of things about to go also like if you notice any oil splashes on underside of gearbox etc, all little help in the long run mate

Also if your gunna do the gearbox and engine oil changes yourself check to see if the drain bolts have a magnet on the tip when you take them out, this helps to catch any rouge metal fragments floating about in the gearbox resevoir and engine sump, if they dont i reccomend getting some bolts with magnetic tips, only a 5er off ebay
