VTR, performance worth the money?

    Hello all,

First things first i can imagine this is a question that has been answered a fair amount of times so i do apologise.

I've just recently acquired a 02 VTR on 96k as i needed a cheap run around since i lost my other car in an accident. Friend of mine has a VTS ex cup car and it's tempted me to keep mine as a track car when i get another daily. The question is, performance wise; what kind of money are we talking to get to X amount of power, and is it worth the expenditure?
Typical modifications are obviously the cams, full exhaust system and remap etc, what kind of power is to be expected? Does anyone here own a similar setup?

    Many thanks.

Best £££ per bhp, is to fit the 16 valve vts engine.

you asking the question wrong way

you say how much you want to spend and then someone will tell you how much you can have for that

You'll spend far too much money modifying the VTR engine to be on comparison with the VTS engine.

On a side note, why are you looking to obtain more power before other modifications for track use? You'll be much better off changing the suspension, brakes, tyres and gutting the interior completely. Speed isn't everything.

Realistically your friend did it the best way. Get an ex race car and it will have all the bits already and will be considerably cheaper than building fresh..

Raceland 4-2-1 to sportex exhuast, decat with 3 inch tip, K&N replacement filter with standard intake, car is service and dynoed at 106bhp mines the 98bhp engine, these are modifcations that wouldn't cost alot this isn't a track car, hope this helps you get an idea of what these basic mods would get you
