Coolant temp gauge reads backwards?

   Not long got my first car a 2001 saxo vtr.
   
   I've done a service and disks and pads.
   Since I've had it the temperature gauge always reads backwards.
   
   Reads warm half way when cold and as it heats up gauge reads cold at the bottom. I've changed both sensors related to the coolant and reset the ecu but no change.
   
   I'm also only doing 25mpg (short trips) but I'm not sure if that's related.
   
   Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

   That will be oil temp sensor mate

   Is there one on a saxo? Does it show temperature on gauge also?

   Only on a vts I believe.

   Unless the sensor wires are back to front?
