Painting rear brake calipers?

  1. #1
Hi just wondered if any of you have painted your rear calipers? the actual bit with the piston in not just the carriers. Basically I took the calipers off to rebuild them and noticed one of them which is a previously refurbished caliper has been sandblasted by the looks of it and it's causing some kind of corrosion which is getting under the seals so I thought if I clean it up and paint it hopefully that will stop it happening again. Just want to paint them black nothing fancy..

Anyways just wanted to know what paint you used and did you primer it etc?

Yeh mate done mine red the other week... Use normal primer and high temperature paint, if you use normal paint it will just bubble and flake after a few weeks because calipers get bloody hot on Saxos

Pretty simple job to be fair mate, the most difficult bit is not breaking the bleed nipples as they're pretty small on the rear. once you've got it off wind the piston all the way out and then you will be able to wiggle it free, no need for any compressed air. Then its just a case of prising the seals off the a screwdriver or similar, cleaning it all up and then putting the new on and winding the piston back in. If you are replacing the piston you need to swap over the internals from the old piston which is just a clip holding them in which can be fiddly but not too difficult.
